Build your Warrior
Build your Warrior was a feminist spoken word evening event hosted at Exeter Library in March 2022 as part of the HerStory Festival developed by Poet in the City.
My role
For this commissioned project, I developed all visual promotional materials including social media graphics, printed posters and event merchandise.
The challenge
The event had to be clearly associated with the rest of the festival, while also maintaining an identity of its own. The design would have to resonate with the target audience for the event which included people interested in empowerment through feminism and poetry who would not normally go to Exeter Library.
The solution
Through the research phase of my process, I identified clear trends in feminist visuals, so I decided to include a bold pink colour to help audiences clearly identify the theme. In addition, the handwritten type and hand-drawn graphics conveyed a sense of personal development and connected to the theme of ‘Build your Warrior’ as a process to reach empowerment.
The result
The event was sold-out and had the one of the best turnouts for the Library’s events of the festival. Alongside its partner event in Newcastle, it attracted 130 live audience members and engaged 13k audience members on social media.
