Environmental Statement
I chose to start my freelancing business after careful consideration of how I could help others and support a fairer and more sustainable society. Part of this consideration included ensuring I run my business in a way that is ethical and as sustainable as possible. Below are some of the ways in which I’m trying to do just that.
My website
I have used a CO2 calculator (Website Carbon) to work out the impact that loading my website has on the environment. As it stands, my website was awarded a grade of C which is above 52% of all websites (the grading system is between A+ and F). The hosting platforms I use run on renewable energy. I will look into best practices to lower my carbon dioxide emission and I aim to improve this score by July 2025.
Working with impactful clients
I have a clear strategy of providing my services to organisations and individuals that make a positive impact on people and planet. This is a core mission of my freelancing activity and will always be a priority.
Limited use of resources
As a freelancer, I have the opportunity to carefully choose which resources I need and why. I aim to take into account the environmental impact of each choice I make and I will favour sustainable options where practicable. For example, this means investing in high-quality equipment that does not require frequent updating as well as limiting commuting time and office space by working from home.
Leading with a sustainable-first approach
When working on all projects, I will aim to suggest sustainable options for services related to my activities (such as project management tools or printing companies), advocating for the benefits of choosing ethically over cost.
Learning and improving
I will regularly update my processes and use of resources as I learn more about relevant ways in which I can help the planet and I will adjust my methods as my freelancing activity grows.
